There will be several bright deep sky objects that will be visible the night of our program. Some of the most popular objects are:
- M42 – The Great Orion Nebula, a bright and beautiful star-forming nebula
- M45 – The Pleaides (The Seven Sisters) (Open Cluster)
- M44 – The Beehive Cluster (Open Cluster)
- NGC 457 – The Owl or ET Cluster (Open Cluster)
- NGC 869/884 – The Double Cluster (Open Cluster)
- Planet Uranus – The seventh planet from the sun
This is just a few of many bright open clusters that our sky experts may be displaying on their telescopes. Please join us to find out what we see!
Hot chocolate and concessions
Hot chocolate and concessions available for sale at 6:30pm benefitting 6th grade graduation.
What to Bring
- Warm clothes
- An inquisitive mind!
- Cash for concessions
Flashlights are not required. However if you do choose to bring one, please use only RED flashlights, as white flashlights diminish viewing clarity in the surrounding area.
Family Event for all ages
This is not a drop off event. While children of all ages are welcome, all children must be accompanied by an adult. We want to make sure all star gazers are making good choices, stay safe, and OC Astronomers’ equipment is being respected.
Watch your step! School grounds will be dark.
Lights around the school will be turned off so that visibility using the telescopes can be under more optimal conditions. Please take extra caution that children and families are safe out on the basketball courts and playground.
Can I bring my own telescope to share?
In the case of cloudy weather or rain, the event may be postponed or canceled. For more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
