Principal’s Message: September 20, 2016
Hello, Santiago Hills families,
We hope you had a wonderful weekend. Thank you to the PTA for hosting the Movie Night on Friday! I enjoyed seeing all the families that attended, the yummy food, and the laughs provided by the Minions movie. It was a wonderful evening for all.
School Arrival and Dismissal
Just a quick reminder that only students and authorized volunteers are allowed on campus between 7:55am and 3:30pm.
- As a safety measure when students are present, we ask that parents remain off campus and allow their children to walk onto the campus. Please make arrangements in advance for a meeting place.
- Teachers provide supervision between 7:55am-8:10am and for 15 minutes after dismissal times. All students should be picked up at their dismissal time.
- Families with primary and upper grade pickup may wait at the lunch tables for the later dismissal, provided that students are in your care and supervision during that time.
Please follow all safety instructions outlined in our Santiago Hills Handbook, especially in the parking lot area.
- There is one lane for drop-off and pick-up. Please wait for the car in front of you to move forward before continuing through the parking lot.
- All pedestrians should cross at marked crossing areas only. The parking lot is not a safe place for crossing.
The safety of our students is a top priority and depends on each of us doing our part.
Forgotten Items
If you are delivering an item that your child has forgotten, please remember that we do not deliver items to classrooms during instructional time. Unless the item is essential, this is a wonderful opportunity to help our students learn responsibility by bringing the item the next day or at the next opportunity. If the item is essential, you may leave it in the designated box just past our front office clerk. Forgotten lunches may be left in the designated boxes at the lunch tables.
PTA Membership and Pledge Drive
If you haven’t yet joined the Santiago Hills PTA, please consider it. Our PTA supports all of our students through family events (such as the Movie Night), student events, and support in the classrooms. For more information, please visit www.santiagohillspta.com
School Site Council Representative Needed
School Site Council is an important part of our Santiago Hills community, assisting with the development and monitoring of the school’s curriculum and instructional plan and comprised of school stakeholders. We are currently in need of one parent member for the 2016-2017 school year. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30am at Santiago Hills. The nomination form (attached below) needs to be returned by September 23rd for consideration.
5th and 6th Graders: Harvest Cup Soccer Sign-ups
Our annual Harvest Cup Soccer Tournament is coming up on October 14 and 16. Our school won in 2013 and we are looking to bring the trophy back home! Whether you play on a club team or just enjoy the sport, Santiago Hills needs you! Preregistration is open and going on until Sept 23. Here’s the link: www.irvineyouthsports.
PTA Family Night Out: Pieology on Thursday, September 22
What’s for dinner on Thursday? How about Pieology at The Market Place? It’s a win-win for us all. Your family will get dinner without the clean-up and our PTA will get 20% of dine-in and take out sales when you show your flyer (attached below).
Front Porch Pops Friday, September 23
Looking for a treat to start your weekend? Front Porch Pops will be selling delicious dairy and non-dairy popsicle options after dismissalon Friday. Popsicles are $3 and 20% of sales go to our PTA.
Wishing you a wonderful rest of the week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Michele Ogden, Principal
