Speaker Series: Mrs. Venable Friday 1/6/17 6:30-7:30pm
First talk for the new year!
Santiago Hills, 4th grade APAAS teacher
will be talking about
SMALL BELIEF, BIG INFLUENCE
Helping Children Develop a Growth Mindset
Friday, January 6.2017, 6.30 – 7.30 p.m.
Parents and children welcome
Light refreshments will be served
In her book Mindset, Carol Dweck says, “If parents want to give children a gift, the best thing parents can do is to teach their children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and keep on learning. That way, their children don’t have to be slaves of praise. They will have a lifelong way to build and repair their own confidence.”
Join us as we discuss how one belief can lead to all this – the love of challenge, belief in effort, resilience in the face of setbacks, and greater (more creative!) success.
About the speaker: Paula Venable began her teaching career in IUSD 30 years ago in the APAAS program. She was honored to be named Irvine’s Elementary Teacher of the year in 2015 and to be recognized as an Orange County Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist. Teaching is her passion and helping students develop a growth mindset is just one of the joys she experiences each day.
