About the speaker
Mike O’Brien is an American former competition swimmer who won the gold medal in the men's 1,500-meter freestyle event in a time of 15:05.20 at the 1984 summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. In his ensuing college years as a member of the USC swim team, he followed up his Olympic success with two NCAA titles, three U.S. National titles and two American records. After a stint as a sports color commentator for NBC at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the 1993 Hawaii Iron Man Triathlon (in which he also competed after only six weeks of training), Mike and his wife started Mike O’Brien Swim Instruction in Orange and Los Angeles counties. They have operated the program ever since, during which time O’Brien has taught more than 10,000 swimmers.
